Sample and hold (S/H) ICs, also known as track-and-hold amplifiers, are electronic circuits that capture and store an analog voltage signal at a specific moment in time. The S/H IC holds the input voltage for a short period and outputs a constant voltage that represents the input voltage at the time of sampling.
S/H ICs are commonly used in applications that require the measurement or processing of analog signals, such as in analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), digital signal processors (DSPs), and communication systems.
In an ADC system, the S/H IC is used to capture the analog input voltage signal and hold it steady while the ADC converts it to a digital signal. This allows the ADC to accurately sample the analog signal at a specific time and convert it to a digital value.
S/H ICs typically have a fast acquisition time and low droop rate, which means that they can quickly capture and hold the input signal with minimal voltage drop over time. Some S/H ICs can also provide a high input impedance and low output impedance, which helps to minimize loading effects and improve signal integrity.
