Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCOs) are electronic devices that generate an output signal whose frequency is determined by an input voltage. VCOs are widely used in various applications, such as communication systems, radio and television tuners, and frequency synthesizers.

The VCO operates by controlling the frequency of a resonant circuit using a voltage-controlled element, such as a varactor diode. The resonant circuit can be made of various components, such as LC tank circuits, crystal oscillators, or SAW resonators. By varying the voltage applied to the varactor diode, the resonant frequency of the circuit can be adjusted, resulting in a change in the oscillator frequency.

One of the main advantages of VCOs is their ability to generate a wide range of frequencies that can be adjusted in real-time using a control voltage. This makes them ideal for use in applications that require frequency agility, such as in communication systems that need to change frequencies quickly.
