RF/microwave detectors are electronic components used in radio frequency (RF) and microwave circuits to measure the power of a signal. They are used to monitor the output of an amplifier, measure the power in a transmission line, or detect the presence of a signal. RF/microwave detectors are often used in communication systems, radar systems, and test and measurement equipment.
RF/microwave detectors can be categorized into different types based on their operating principles. Some of the commonly used detectors include diode detectors, thermocouple detectors, and bolometer detectors. Diode detectors are the most widely used and consist of a diode connected to a load resistor. They work by rectifying the RF signal and producing a DC voltage proportional to the RF power. Thermocouple detectors work based on the Seebeck effect, which converts a temperature difference into a voltage. Bolometer detectors work based on the change in resistance of a material when it is exposed to RF radiation.
RF/microwave detectors come in various forms, including surface mount packages, modules, and standalone components. They are designed to operate over a wide frequency range, from a few MHz to several GHz, and are available in both analog and digital versions. RF/microwave detectors are essential components in any RF or microwave system and are used in a variety of applications, including wireless communications, radar, and satellite communication systems.
