Record your hi-def TV programs: The WinTV-HD allows you to record and playback your hi-def TV shows from your PC's hard disk. Note: recording high definition TV programs requires your PC to have a fast hard disk and a fast graphics card. Corrupt recordings can occur if your PC is not fast enough. The WinTV-HD outputs High Definition TV to a 16:9 HDTV monitor, for the ultimate home theater system! You can use either a YPbPr or HD15 output (two common high definition TV connections). The WinTV-HD comes with video output settings for many of the popular plasma monitors, plus native 1080i and 720p formats. Digital audio output, too! The WinTV-HD has an S/PDIF output which carries the surround sound audio to your home theater audio system. Note: the S/PDIF outputs are only active on high-definition TV programs broadcast in Dolby Digital. Analog TV, too! WinTV-HD also tunes and displays conventional analog television, from cable TV or a TV antenna, in a resizeable window on your PC screen. Two RF connectors are included on the WinTV-HD so you can connect to cable television and a Digital TV antenna at the same time. When tuned to an analog TV station, WinTV-HD's dbx-TV noise reduction circuitry delivers crisp, clear stereo audio. And with WinTV-HD's remote control, you can surf your digital and analog TV channels at the same time, from across the room. Note: The WinTV-HD cannot receive encrypted digital cable TV or satellite TV. It is designed to receive ATSC digital TV standard programs, plus standard analog TV. |

High Definition Digital TV: The new ATSC Digital Television standard in the United States delivers a High Definition digital TV signal over the airwaves. Using MPEG 2 compression transmitted at 19.4 Mbits/sec, the ATSC standard includes 18 different formats for use with a wide range of video content. High definition TV is transmitted primarily over the airwaves, but some cable TV systems are starting to carry limited hi-definition TV shows on their cable networks. The WinTV-HD can receive hi-def programs from either cable TV or a TV antenna. |
