The SD Card is a highly secure stamp-sized flash memory card. Jointly developed by Matsushita Electronic (best known for its Panasonic brand name products), SanDisk and Toshiba, the SD Card weighs approximately two grams. The SD Card can be used in a variety of digital products; digital music players, cellular phones, handheld PCs (HPCs), digital cameras, digital video camcorders, smart phones, car navigation systems and electronic books. The SD card is a flash memory storage device with built-in security functions designed to facilitate the secure exchange of content between host devices and the card. To date, more than 200 products with slots for the card have been introduced. This number continues to increase as products such as digital cameras become smaller in size, taking advantage of the SD card's convenient form factor and large storage capacity. SD memory cards are now available in capacitiey 64 Megabytes. With this capacity, it now becomes possible to store full-length MPEG-4 video and hundreds of motion JPEG video clips without requiring the use of multiple cards. |
